Backswood Farm is set idyllically in 290 acres of mid-Devon countryside. Set high above the river Exe valley, the farm has stunning views towards Exmoor and Dartmoor. This is a very special place for many varieties of wildlife and plants, making it a perfect place to spend time.
For Schools
We offer the facilities for school day visits to the farm. These days are held throughout the year and give pupils the opportunity to learn fascinating facts about farming and nature. Our facilities include toilets, a classroom, a kitchen and a host of educational tools to make a visit a very special day out with memories to savour for years to come.

Backswood has two luxury award- winning cottages which offer a unique relaxing environment to make your stay special. Backswood is ideally situated for trips to either coast, or excursions to Dartmoor and Exmoor. But with our superb nature garden, woodland, riverside walks, fantastic views, and great wildlife you might not want to leave.
For Gardeners
Our 2 acre Nature Garden offers homes to much of the local wildlife. It also acts as a living classroom for all visitors, a place to relax for our guests and is also open for NGS days and gardening groups. It contains unusual sculptural features, all of which have been created using recycled and locally sourced materials.
